Don’t Micromanage Your Team & Empower Them

One of the worst things you can do is micromanage as it is not only difficult for the team, but also for you. Instead, you should let your team know exactly what you expect from them and empower them so that they feel confident that they can get the job done. When you give your team the space and ability to solve problems and contribute, this will actually increase your ability to manage.

However, in order to do this, you will need to understand each person in your team and determine his or her individual strengths and weaknesses. By doing so, you will know how to delegate work and provide the right amount of support for each team member.

Get a Mentor

One of the best things you can do, as a new manager is to get a mentor who can help you through the process and answer all your questions. In order to choose a mentor, you should choose someone that has a great deal of success. This mentor should be capable of handling many situations at a time or else they may not be able to help you when they are working. You can choose a mentor that is working in the same company or even someone that is working in another company or a person you’ve worked with before.

You should also understand that when you become a manager, the relationship that you will have with your employees will change or has to change. Additionally, you will now have a different relationship with other managers in the company.
